I am sorry to have upset people with my offer for exchange.I was unaware that the items I offered were considered weeds in some states.I am in the process of removing them from my property and will not be sending any to anyone.I had always considered myself a responsible citizen and am mortified to find I inadvertently offered noxios weeds for exchange, yes I know I should have found out but they were here when I brought the property and I didn't consider them any more than novelties. Please accept my apologies.I am leaving the list.

Soo,
Don't be so hasty to leave.
These forums are for learning and sharing. I don;t remember any posts from you with noxious weeds.
Did you get bad mail? You don't have a private way of e-mailing so please contact me through "my page". I'd like to be able to write to you without opening a bun-fight in the forums.
Alison

Yes Soo, Dont be hasty.
I have had my fair share of unpleasant 'etiquette' lessons from others (yes on here!), I think its just all part of how typing instead of speaking sometimes gets the wrong message across. Also how a bit of knowledge or experiences can be used as power. Most of us/them are well meaning in the end are as mortified as you if they had upset you.
PS I only recently required through an exchange some gaziana seeds, so dont worry, they arent weeds everywhere, I am trying to get some pinky ones to establish themselves in a very awful part of my garden. I see them growing in lots of gardens in SA coz they are so tough!

Keep on Gardening! (And trading!)
Jay

PS no insults to anyone who has had a run in with me, all is good now :)

Please don't leave because of this antesoo. Nobody thinks any less of you. I notice that one of your favourite forums is Organic Gardening. That obviously shows that you care about the environment. Don't take any of this personally.
Cheers,
Dee.

RE: WANTED: Offer withdrawn

Firstly, thankyou for your obviously well intentioned offer. Secondly sorry you have been so humiliatingly attacked by the native plant vigilantes.
Thirdly, please don't leave the forum, we are not all experts, I am just a person who innocently enjoys playing around in my garden, yet I am berated for buying some roses at Big W, which I am told, have no historical or cultural significance. The best way to learn is through making a few mistakes, heck, we have all learnt now.
This whole issue could have been handled in a far better way.
Let the so called experts enjoy their intellectual snobbery, we are all an expert in some field of our own and it is up to each of us to educate others in ways that strengthen education and do not seek to belittle others.
Smiles to all.

RE: WANTED: Offer withdrawn

It would be very unfortunate to loose a member who has contributed so much to these forums. These people are not experts - if they were they would be open to others opinions and - dare I say it - rights. An expert recognises that they do not know everything - I have seen no indication of that in these "anti exotic" posts. Take heart - The genorosity shown by members on this forum in sharing seeds etc is a very special thing - dont let one persons strident attitude spoil what is a very worthwhile forum - I dont think that is what gardenweb is about. Im going out to divide my gazanias - they aren't and never have been a weed in this part of Brisbane. Cheers Robyn

RE: WANTED: Offer withdrawn

Robyn,
With regard to rights as far as Victorians are concerned, the offering of Horehound plants for trade is prohibited. It is a Regionally Prohibited Weed in the Port Phillip East Catchment and Land Protection Region and a Regionally Controlled Weed in all other CaLP Regions of Victoria.
(Land owners in areas where horehound is Regionally Prohibited must eradicate or control it on their land. Landholders in areas where horehound is Regionally Controlled must take all reasonable steps to control it and prevent its spread on their land and the roadsides which adjoin their land.)

My point was that the weed should not have been deliberately cultivated as it is in a CaLP where it is classified as a RCW. Cultivation is not taking reasonable steps to prevent its spread in my opinion. Where it is going in a trade is not the primary issue when it's cultivation is illegal in Victoria.

(Horehound is a proclaimed noxious weed in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and parts of New South Wales)

Would you send your divided Gazanias to perhaps other states? (Sorry these are not linked)

Lighten up Lomatia, My comment was made" tongue in cheek"
I did not and am not offering gazanias to anyone.
I did not ask for info on weeds - I am more than capable of informing myself fully of all the facts on weeds and recognise that the problem is a continually evolving one.
Yourself and Mr Boyles do not have a monopoly on devoting your time to weed eradication. I have spent at least three hours a week for the last twelve years removing weeds from my property and the latest scourge is the trees which my council planted on the verge and are being spread by the birds. I brought the problem to their attention when they were planted six years ago to no avail and now I remove at least 50 seedlings every year. There are areas in Queensland where dichondra repens is a weed yet I note that some native plant nurseries continue to list it in their stock - what control do they have over the dispersal of this plant after it leaves their premises? Azolla filliculoides can cause water fouling when it cuts off the oxygen supply because of bursts of growth - hardly environmentally friendly yet it is sold by native nurseries and then there are plants such as Alisma plantago - aquatica and prunella vulgaris which some authorities do not recognise as native and plantago debilis which has become a weed in parts of the Hawkesbury River catchment but are still being stocked in some Native nurseries. If you are truly committed to stopping weeds coming into Australia I beg you to turn your attention to Ebay and do a bit of research into some of the seeds being sold there - and where they are being sourced.

RE: WANTED: Offer withdrawn

Please, let's leave the bickering to others.
Yes, some plants are noxious weeds, and no, I don't know them all. We're here to share a love of gardening and to share plats and info. Okay, some people share info a little enthusiastically, but I'm sure it's because they feel passionately about it.

RE: WANTED: Offer withdrawn

LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER GARDENER IS GONE, I HAVE NOTICED A LOT OF PEOPLE DROPPING OFF THESE FORUMS ALL BECAUSE OF THE WAY SOME POSTS ARE ANSWERED , I AGREE WE ALL HAVE TO LEARN BUT THERE IS A NICE WAY OF INFORMING PEOPLE NOT SHOVING IDEAS DOWN SOME-ONES THROAT BECAUSE THEY DIDNT KNOW SOMETHING WAS A WEED, I HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THIS AND THATS WHY I DONT POST MUCH ANY MORE, IF WEEDS ARE TO BE ERADICATED COMPLETELY, WHAT DO WE DO? DESTROY ALL THE BIRDS THAT SPREAD THE SEEDS "NO" I DONT THINK SO, WE JUST DO THE BEST WE CAN AT THE TIME AND WITH THE RESOURCES THAT WE HAVE,

RE: WANTED: Offer withdrawn

Weeds are are a plant that is not wanted in a particular area, and does very well in some areas, and not in other areas. Some plants are not weeds in other areas, because they are hard to establish, try as the gardener might.Please. lighten up folks...If something is not to your liking,it might be to others, because they can't grow it...This is a gardeners forum...where I hope, we all like plants..what one may like, another mightn't..thank God for diversity..where would the plant world be without it....
