WANTED: Peanut

I'm looking for viable peanuts or a piece of an actively growing peanut plant. I've seen this plant growing in queensland so I'm hoping someone will have a piece to trade.

I have a lot of herbs, spices, interesting perennals etc to trade so let me know and I'm sure we can find something nice to swap.

Jamus, I have read that you can buy raw peanuts in the shell from health food shops and grow them.

Cheers,
Dee.

RE: WANTED: Peanut

Hi Jamus,

I've emailed you privately if you want some peanuts.

I originally started with raw peanuts from the supermarket and now have a nice little crop. Note that if you are going to harvest and eat them, that they contain a toxin and must be dried for several days before eating. I usually set them aside for a week or two minimum. Even if oven roasting in the shells, I still leave them to dry for several days beforehand.

Regarding cultivation, once the flowers die a spur will form which curls downwards into the soil and it is on this spur that the peanut forms underground. So once the spikes start entering the ground you have to be careful not to disturb the soil, so don't weed or cultivate too close to the plants or the peanut may not form.

Regards,
Carol
