WANTED: Nutmeg

Posted by muezzin NSW Aust (My Page) on

Does anyone have access to Myrsitica fragrans (Nutmeg) trees?

Not the native "nutmeg", Myristica insipida, but rather M. fragrans - the classic nutmeg.

I would like to try seeds or cuttings, if you have access to a tree.

I have many, many interesting plants to trade - way too many to list. Let me know if you can help me out, and I will get in touch and provide a very generous trade in return!

RE: WANTED: Nutmeg

I think I have what you want. It is showy when out in flower and has soft clusters of pinky-mauve flowers, grey green soft foliage and smells when you brush past it. Very easy to grow from cutting. I am looking for snail creeper and clematis. Someone pronised me a cutting of the snail creeper but I haven't been on gardenweb for a while so haven't heard back. Do not know if they'll grow in Yeppoon but willing to take a chance.

I think what you have, jan, is Nutmeg Bush - Tetradenia riparia (formerly Iboza riparia). Quite pretty but it can't be used in cooking...

Here is a link that might be useful: nutmeg bush
