WANTED: lawn edging shears

Does anyone know anywhere in SA that sells lawn edging shears? I managed to pick up a pair second-hand at a market, but they're only an interim measure. I"d really rather avoid getting anything more electrical/petrol-driven to do the job.

Andy, If you've managed to get some second-hand ones, why do you still need to buy a pair? Often older garden tools are superior in quality. What about getting them professionally sharpened and cleaned....Just curious...Cheers, Dee.

Good question - the handles are far too close together to be used comfortably, and being so stout, it's impossible to bend them into a more acceptable condition. The blades are rusty, but could be cleaned up to a treat, however considering the above I don't think it's worth the effort in the long term.

Fair enough! There are a number of online places where you could probably buy some. The problem I see with that though, is you can't check them out for ease of use before you buy them. My only suggestions are larger hardware shops, larger nurseries or perhaps your local mower shop.....Cheers, Dee.

Hello Andy, I use old hand sheep shears to do my edges. Are these what you are looking for? If so you will get a better pair if you keep looking for an old second hand pair and get them sharpened. I have tried three more modern versions and they just dont do the job, they get blunt quicker, they dont meet properly for a good cut and they go out of shape too easily then you pinch your palm when using them. Persevere and get a comfortable old pair second hand. Good luck Robyn
