Apricot Freckle/spots

| My apricots have developed a freckle type lesion on the skin of the fruit. They are almost ripe so I cracked one open to see if it was bug infested, but the inside of the fruit was perfect. I am assuming that this freckle has been caused by all the wet weather we have been having in the last couple of months. I havent had to water the vegies for weeks. My question is - is the fruit still edible or should I strip the tree. Thanks in advance for your help. |

| My apricots had the same spots that I asssumed were from sun burn from the tree not getting enough water and tree not having a heavy enough leaf cover to protect the fruits. I've seen it many times before and made jams and canned apricots with no problems. I don't even peel them - the spots on the skin lighten up considerabley not to be even noticed in jam. In the canned fruit, it just gives the skin a little "color". I say nothing to anyone, and no one says anything negative to me. DO NOT strip tree! You will have to wait another year for fruit and there is no good reason to discard it. Jim McNulty |

| Thanks Jim. Unfortunately I had to strip the tree after all. Just as the apricots were getting to eating stage, I picked a few off the tree and lo and behold fruit fly had gotten to the fruit before I had. Never been a problem here before, now I notice that my peaches have also been stung. |
