passionfruit stings

I am growing yellow passionfruit. I tend to get a lot of them dropping while they are still green. They have marks on them, like they have been sting. Would the stings make them fall off? See photo:

I have seen the same type of marks on a purple passionfruit we had years ago. I thought it was from contact with foliage or branches as it is like a callous. I don't think it is the cause of them dropping. I'm not really familiar with the yellow passionfruit but it appears to be full sized so one would assume it pollinated. Will it ripen on the bench and have you actually tasted it? Some fruits don't always get to the colour we expect for various reasons like amount of sun etc.

The larger ones seem pretty normal on eating. I also get a few small ones dropping that don't ripen properly. Lately the possums and crows seem to be more of a problem.

rats like passionfruit, though they tend to go for the ripe ones. you need to give ripening passionfruit plenty of water, or they will drop off. I dont know of anything that 'stings' them - if it was a bug, you would expect to see some larval insect in the pulp or the skin.
