Mushroom spore source

Anyone know where I could get a "mushroom growing kit"? I used to grow them while living OS but haven't seen any here.
Also, does anyone know of a good field guide to Australian edible fungi?

Ray,
I found out by accident how to get my own mushies. I buy bulk mushroom compost and store it behind the shed where it is slightly damp, shaded and sheltered, no sun and quite 'dark' - perfect growing conditions I only use it on the garden the following year because I like to rot it down but lo and behold, when Autumn came around this year, we had a fantastic crop of free mushrooms. If you have a bulk supplier, just pile it up and particularly buy a supply that has mushrooms in it. Most of the bagged stuff will have because its been undisturbed since bagging. I've seen massive mushrooms in the bags at the nursery, so I reckon its worth buying those instead of those little kits. I love a free lunch!

Cheers

I'll try that one out Linda. I was thinking of shitake mushrooms as I really like them.

Ray, I am after spore for Porcini mushrooms (Boletus edulis) Isn't it interesting that so many on Cornucopia have similiar interests! Tomatoes, chillis, sausage, m/rooms - probably cheese as well!!!

I had the same thing a few years back ,cosi fantutti!!
A bag of Mushy Compost and ....IT WAS ALIVE!!. It grew about three kilos all up. It came from a commercial supplier, who changes soil every year.
Worth a try

I posted a writeup of how to grow shiitake and oyster mushrooms indoors that also has links to places that sell all different sorts of spores. I hope it might help some.

Here is a link that might be useful: Oyster and Shiitake Mushrooms

I loove oyster mushrooms, but I never see any kits nor do I know of a source of inoculum in Australia. Any help?

I'm pretty sure that several of the places listed in the guide ship worldwide. If not, they can probably point you in the right direction if you email and ask.
