Sweet White Onions

| Here in NZ we can't buy these onions, except occasionally they are imported from the USA when the old season pukekohe long keeper are finished and the new season are not ready, so I have sowed and planted "Sweet Walla Walla", and am looking forward to them. Like all mild onions they are not long keepers, so I was resigning myself to being without them for most of the year. However when we were in Perth last month (October), we found several varieties of sweet "salad" onions in the supermarkets. Does anyone know what varieties they might be and how they were able to mature them so early? (or are they imported?) Or have they solved the storage problem? |
