Tieing up tomatoes

Addicted? Not yet - but I really enjoy getting out in the vege patch as the sun rises and tidying up the garden. I have just been tieing up tomatoes. I used some "soft twist ties" that look like Christmas ties for the things you hang on the tree. They were $1.99 from the wharehouse for a packet. They seem to be ok, but I guess there is a better way. What do you folk use for tieing up tomatoes? Thanks, Daniel

Mrs finbar's pantyhose. Minus her. The only thing you need to take into account is the growth of the plant. Anything tied too tight, that won't give as the plant grows, can cut into the stem.

I would love to use panty hose, but its too hot to wear them here but they are good. All the old clothes go down the back shed and are ripped into ties I prefer NOT use any with wire in them I have bought three rolls of jute twine from one of the cheap shops for $2 they are a good buy. Cheers..MM. |

I use bale twine but Mrs Lomatia thinks it looks a bit ugly. (Orange twine looks like tommies at a glance and you tend to get a bit excited) Am going to try loose cable ties like I do on the raspberries.

If I grow my tommies in a row, I put a stake at each end and use baling twine (I try and use pink or black not orange) between the stakes on both sides of the plant. Then I can just use twist ties to hold the both sides of the twine together between bushes. The plants themselves aren't actually tied.

I use old bed sheets. I tear off a piece and hang it somewhere handy. When I need a tie, I just tear off a strip. Mantis
