Sweet Potatoes

Has anyone grown sweet potatoes. We love them so I would like to have a go at growing some. I presume that one would just bury one and wait. Any hints, ideas etc would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Mantis

RE: Sweet Potatoes

Hi Mantis, I grew them here in Launching Place 2-3 years ago. Just buried them in corner of garden till shoots developed and when shoots were big enough with good roots i seperated shoots from tuber and planted out. They actually did quite well-they ramble a bit like pumpkins and it is always good to lift foilage as they grow or it starts to take root and no energy is sent to tubers.
Hope this helps-Stewart

RE: Sweet Potatoes

Thanks Stewart. I buried a couple and will see what happens. I think our summers should be long enough for them.
