Is it doable to send tomato seeds by Express Post or is covert through regular mail still advisable?

Jennifer, anxious to get a package or two in the mail now that her handwriting is legible (somewhat)

Absolutely no need for covert with tomato seeds. Just ensure that the botanical name (our quarantine people know them as Lycopersicon esculentum) is clearly written on each packet. Peppers and brassicas are fine too, with the same proviso.
Don't bother sending legumes, lettuce or any members of the Solanum genus, among other things. They are either restricted or only available to large corporates who can pay all the costs.

Also ...

You asked about melons on another post. All (common) members of the genera Cucurbita and Cucumis are okay to post, with botanical names of course!

yes you can post by regular mail or use internationa express post, with tomato seeds aqis requires the botnaical name of the seeds as well as common name, not sure if stuff from canada will come unre a stronger spot light so to say with those pigeons apparently carrying bird flu they may be scrutinising stuff from canada more so??

Hi Jennifer!

I think in the past that standard airmail letters would have been faster than padded bags, the latter being scanned and then inspected. However, these days they seem to be scanning letters as well. I'm just not sure if it's random batches that are chosen for scanning or not, but they're probably a lot more vigilant at present as per Len's comment.

I'd suggest a padded bag posted Air Mail (not Express) would get here in about a week, which is pretty good. OTOH, by sea could take 4 months as I recently found out!

Humungous Hug back at ya!

Patrina Pepperina - I think they have a name data base - that's the only way I can explain every letter of mine being opened and inspected and everything to She Who Must Be Obeyed being allowed through without a question.

needless to say I don't order much under my name anymnore :-)
