| the grubs have started early in paradise
I've lost my entire nectarine crop to fruit fly - goning to bag the fruit next year
and there's some nasty caterpillars doing terrible damage to my tomatoes - lost at least half of the still green ones
the only toms not affected yet are the cherry toms
thank goodness the grass hoppers haven't started yet - though the rain yesterday might be just what they need to get their wings and start doing some serious feeding

Yes I am having the same problems here with caterpillars Today I bought some chemical spray, but not for the fruit and veggies. I cannot grow any veggies here in the late spring or Summer so I dont bother anymore. Just silver beet for the chooks so they can get a bit of green seeing there is only brown grass here. I will start again in February. So chin up Mate and grow a cover crop for some goods bed later Cheers..MM. |

| Oh, that's horrible. We get really jealous of people being able to grow all year 'round, but I forget it can be a curse living in the tropics. Bad Luck, if it's any consolation, our Nectarine has curly leaf. |

| and now the dog has discovered the strawberries and loves them he's also decided he likes the curly leaf lettuces (big shrug of the shoulders and a wry smile) :-) |

Strange that!! My two dogs would not even look at lettuce let alone eat it, onions were another one. Just curious is your dog eating it or rolling in it, now that I could understand. Seeing there does not seem to be much green grass around, but up your way there would be plenty right. |

| my little nuggett eats the lettuce. dogs will eat grass - sometimes, nuggett eats grass a lot - but only wheat or oats and he does nip off leaves from the lettuce his other vice at the moment is pine cones - he absolutely loves them - we get them from a nearby stone pine and he rips the cone open and eats the nuts and the casing off the nuts he eats just about everything we eat - including onions, olives, beans, loves noodles and has even eaten stir fried bok choy and choy sum |

Take care with the onions though - too many can cause anaemia in dogs. Pine cones are great exercise for the gums and teeth too. We have to be careful ghere though because of the bloody 1080 poison that gets into the food chain. Dougal the Beagle loves to dig up bulbs though - so we have an area for him called the Google-Garden that is doggie poison proof and where he can search for buries treasure to his heart's content! Just no onions, spices or chocolate - he may eat it because he's a dog! Linda |

| I remember a dog at an orchard where I did prac work. He would eat apples (lots of them)by holding them between his paws. All he'd leave was very neat cores. |
