Does anyone know when the optimum time to take cuttings from a Feijoa tree is (in Melbourne)? Also, are there any special tricks I should know about?
Cheers,
Dee

I think feijoa is an evergreen, yes? If it is, then probably late spring/early summer would be a good time to take cuttings. My only tip would be to take as many as possible to increase chances of success. Feijoas, though, are generally propagated by seed, as far as I can determine.

Thanks for the reply Raymondo. I thought spring/summer would be about right. I think cuttings are the go though if growing for fruit or else they may not be true to type. I think your tip about growing as many as possible is a very valid one.

Dee.

RE: Feijoa cuttings

I don't knoow how easy feijoas are from cutings. As there are named clones being offered by leading nurseries, I assume it is possible.

Seedlings can be disappointing as they seldom come true to type. However they are vigorous and can be used as rootstock.

I have grafted them with good success. Use a whip graft and remove most of the leaves off the scion. I have generally done this earlier in spring, but assuming you can keep them cool and moist, I think it might still work.

Manuel.
