You guessed it! Tomato Question!

In my new You Beaut hothouse, I've just potted on 5 of the six varieties I am experimenting with - Stupice, Tigerella, Quickpick, Arcadia, Black Russian - just to get me started. But I also have a variety that I must have got from an organic place because they are 'certified' but I can't find anything about them on the www. They are " Lecas di Apulia" Do any of you Tomato Guru's happen to know this variety and can you advise. I'm going to be growing outdoors and in to extend the season. Cheers

Nope, I cant find it either Linda. The words wont even translate to English with google translate. Di will, to of, but the other two no.
I also looked on the GrowItalian.com site and it is not listed there either. Unless someone else can find it, it may be one of those grow it see types :-)

Hi Linda, it's Lecase di Apulia or occasionally, given as Le Case di Apulia (this latter means "The houses of Apulia"). It's a red plum tomato from 60 to 80g in weight. It's supposedly well adapted to dry conditions (must get me some). It's quite an early producer and is a bush (determinate) plant.
Hope this helps.

RE: You guessed it! Tomato Question!

The packet says Select Organic, Lower Beechmont 4211 which seems to be associated with Eden Seeds, but there is no link on their webpage and it's not listed in their index. Organic, none hybrid, old traditional open pollinated seems to have all the criteria for old fashioned goodness! Bugger - the seedling are lovely - 100% germination and sturdy. Maybe some other tomato heads may have a clue. Thanks for trying Oz.

Looks like you two posted at the same time eh.
Well done Ray. Where did you get the info on them?

Did a search on "tomato apulia" Richard. I figured that since Apulia is a town (I've been there) then the first part might well be a typo.

Linda, Select Organic is indeed associated with Eden Seeds. The owner/operator of both is fellow by the name of Alf Finch, a great proponent of open-pollinated veggies, and now also organics. His property, where they grow some of their seed, is run on biodynamic principles.

Many thanks folks. I think we posted together Ray. The packet is spelled wrongly, but never mind. They sound interesting and I'm impressed with the germination and strength of seedlings. Thanks trance - that must have been where I got them but lost the catalogue in one of my manic tidy the house fits! If they dry well I'm be ecstatic!
Thanks again
Linda
