BBQ compatible smoke wood

I'm interested in growing a few trees with timber suitable to use in barbeques as smoke wood such as hickory, oak and mesquite. If anyone has had experience with any of these I would be happy to hear about their successes, failures or general advice.

Click on the link below for a fairly informative article on smoking on the barbie.
Cheers,

Dee, that's a fantastic site.
I worked through it chuckling happily to myself, until I came to the review of John Laws BBQ book, the verdict: "If barbecue books were people, this one would be a slut."
I've barely stopped laughing long enough to type!
As to the original question "BBQ Blue" suggests Pecan or Hickory, there are lots of Pecans growing wild around here there may be some in your area too.
