Beetroot

We've been enjoying absolutely delicious beetroot in the past couple of months. We bought these as seedlings, and as often, the product labelling didn't say what variety they were.
Since then, I've also planted some beetroot from seed, cylindra variety. These have grown brilliantly, but unfortunately are nowhere near as sweet as the former ones.
Do people have an opinion as to the best tasting beetroot?
Ps beetroot roasted is beautiful!

I have some in the garden here in Italy, grown from seed, about five weeks away from ready. Plain old garden variety Italian beetroot. I'll have to check the variety on the seed packet. But, for what it's worth, I'll take beetroot in any shape, colour or form. Especially roasted!

Hi BikingChris,
There are a few different breeds of beetroot, many hybrid varietes are grown for the canery's in our farming area.The baby beets are grown very thick planted to keep their size small and grown very quickly to make sure they are sweet. They are heavy feeders so plenty of good fertiliser and plenty of water for sweetness. If you grow beets in the same soil, year after year they will need a dose of borox as they can depleat the soil very quickly.Good luck, Peter r
