Meddle meddle, fiddle fiddle

I must have too much time on my hands.
I have found that Brandywine Suddeth produces heaps of pollen (in the greenhouse), and I have been using its excess to pollinate other toms that are not doing so well on their own.
I started doing this after gathering pollen to try to cross with College Challenger. Still had lots of pollen on my pinkie, so, I started dabbing any likely looking flower I could find.
I am bagging blossums for seed saving :-)

Regular honeybee Oz!
Would be curious to know if any new variety turns up!
Do tomotoes cross pollinate or are they one of those wierd plants that self pollinate before the flowers open?

A little from Column A, and a little from column B Shepp.
A few people here pollinate with an electric toothbrush.

Good Luck Mantis, I'm looking forward to a
College Fir Tree Challenger, or something.

Hi Shep and Adam.
Shep, the stigma of the tomato flower will accept pollen from the start of the flower opening and for a day or two after that. As long as the tip is sticky they should be ok.
If you look at different types of tomatoes they have various flower setups. Some have stigmas that protrude well past the anther cone (the pollen bearing part), and are notoriously hard to get to self germiniate. Others have the stigma fully enclosed by the anthers and do it all themselves very easily.
Adam, I have been wanting to cross College Challenger with Brandywine for a couple of years. Should be interesting me thinks. A tasty, prolific in the heat type would suffice :-)

Would that make it a College Brandy, or a Wine Challenger?. I;m so confused.
