G'day, my Kipflers have broken through the soil, and are growing well.
Are they killed by frost, or just hurt by it?.
If they're gonna die, I might put some fleece over them at night. If just damaged, maybe some bubble wrap?.
All info gratefully received. |

| Hi adamus a trick I used when I lived in Canberra was to keep an eye on the weather forecast and if the forecat low was below 5 degrees I'd cover the potatoes with straw in the evening and uncover them once the sun was up. |

| Good point to raise Adam. We avoid growing taters in the winter months due to frost. We had a friend recently say he grew them all year round with no detrimental effects to the yield. He said in winter the foliage would die back but come up again. We've yet to prove the theory either way. I'd be tempted to cover them on the colder nights as Paradisi suggested as we haven't seen our last frost yet. |

yeah, thanx guys, I reckon I just do as Paradisi says. No drama to uncover in the Morn. Straw is such a good mulch/thermal blanket, It seems to work really well. Yay, the Nicolas and the Dutch Cream are up and away as well. JUst waiting for the Sapphire, Toolangi Delight,Sebago. |

Adam, Last season was the first year I tried growing spuds. I grew Sebago and was happy with the results. This year I'm trying Sebago again, plus Toolangi Delight. All the seed potatos planted are now up and running. Majority are in the vegie patch, but I'm also trying a few in tyre stacks. Adam, can you (and others please feel free to chime in) please advise a seed potato source for different varieties? Thanks Mark |
