Cumquat Cuttings

Instead of planting a garden this spring I'm collecting cuttings for an orchard at my new place. I have a friend with a very nice cumquat tree that has lots of sweet fruit & I'd like to propagate one.
All that I've read entails grafting onto a rootstock. I could, in theory, grow the rootstock & graft onto it but I was wondering if anyone had had any luck just taking a cutting & growing that. And if so at what time of year & how did they do it etc.
Hoping for lots of help!!!!

Hi Sarah I don't have any experience with cuttings, but I think you can use layering to get new plants. Is the existing tree in a position to do this? |

| Yes Pepino it is. That's a good idea & I shall give it a go. |
