| Hi all. Has any one planted the thornless (lemon) I have been told variously that it is either a lisbon or a eureka or a lemonade dirivitive. I'm quite confused. Has any one any idea and also what type of fruit it produses? Jucy, thick or thin skin etc. thanks |

Hi Otzi I'm not the resident expert on citrus but from my knowledge there are 2 main types of thornless lemons and a lemonade. The first is Eureka. It has lemons all year round, I think 3 definite crops which keep you in fruit all year. The fruit is relatively thick skinned, however different feeding and watering programmes can change this. The other is a Meyer lemon. The fruit is sweeter than a Eureka, but still a distinct lemon taste. Not sure about the crop but the fruit is very juicy and thinner skinned. The Lemonade is a sweet flavoured lemon and you can eat it like you would an orange. The flesh is medium. One thing I found with my citrus is to keep the watering constant. I never let them get too dry and never flood them (ie don't leave them sitting in water), but a heavy watering weekly (depending on the weather) is usually good. I have in the past neglected them and let them dry a little then flooded them to find growth spurts that do have thorns. They look like suckers but do bear fruit. Feed regularly with either a commercial fertiliser or manure or both. Good luck |
