To all gardeners organic or otherwise
Prove that organic heirloom varieties are better
Please feel free to pass on to anybody who may be interested.

The Great Tomato Festival
At Brynmawr we are convinced of the great superiority of heritage varieties of fruit and vegetables, and in the spirit of encouraging others to grow them we are issuing a challenge to all-comers for the end of summer next year. We’re announcing the challenge now, to give all of us time to prepare our secret weapons, the tomatoes.
So gather your seed and prepare your soil for the inaugural Festival of Tomatoes, with picnic and competitions, to be held here at Brynmawr on
Sunday April 16, 2006.

Classes will include

Best tasting cherry type tomato

Best-tasting slicing tomato

Best homemade tomato sauce

Best homemade chutney

Most peculiar looking tomato

Largest tomato

The tomato that flies the farthest

The heaviest tomato

The ugliest tomato

Best-dressed tomato

The best picnic

Everyone will be involved in the judging, and there will be a seed saving demonstration to help us make the most of our harvest.
There will also be a talk on the slow food movement.
Come and join us for a great day and a cut-throat comp!
For details (nearer the time perhaps!),

RE: Heirloom Challenge

I was sent a copy of your email/flyer but I have absolutely no idea where Brynmawr is exept it's most probably somewhere near Lithgow as that's your postal address.
I'm sure there'd be plenty of us who would rise to the challenge given a few more details!!!
Tell us more !!!
Sarah

RE: Heirloom Challenge

David contacted me to say the fair will be in Hampton, near Lithgow, very handy for us Sydneysiders, the rest of you will have to beg a bed!
As ever I've forgotten the ravages wreaked by fruit fly & blight last year & am about to embark on a mass planting of the Mighty College Challenger! My plan is to sell them at the Sustainability Fair held on the 17th Sept at the UWS Richmond campus. This is the old Richmond Ag College where the College series was developed.
Next year I'd like to have the whole set to sell but that will depend on how well ray's grow out goes.
I hope to see as many of you as possible at both events!
Sarah
