Hi All,

My tomatoe seedlings are doing well, just starting to show thier true leaves.

When should I plant them out in the garden?

Thanks
Gill

Gill, don't plant them out too soon. This would set them back a few weeks or even more, and you won't gain anything from this.

Most important is that the soil is warm. Jackie French has a great way of testing whether the soil is warm enough to plant out things -> if you can sit on the ground with your bare bottom - then it's warm enough to start planting out. Just make sure you don't have nosy neighbours if you do that. *winks*

If you have frost (I don't think you have) then you wait till the last (known) day of frost and add maybe another week or two, just to play safe. In my case that's at the beginning or middle of October. Sometimes a bit earlier, but that's a big gamble.

Good luck!

Jackie French? That method of testing soil temperature goes way back to Medieval Europe! Rosewater.

I have a pile thats giving me the jip at the moment. Do you think this approach might help or hinder my discomfort :-)
