San Mazarno Tomatoes

Has anyone heard of these tomatoes. Would they grow in Vic. When should they be planted. I have them in small pots at moment.How long before fruit.Do they need to be staked. Thanks.

I grow them here in Brisbane in the Winter they are a paste tomato very similar to Roma tomatoes.
You should be able to grow any tomato in Victoria.
From seed they take between 80-90 days here.
Yes they need to be staked or have some kind of support as they get heavy with fruit though not a tall plant.

RE: San Mazarno Tomatoes

San Marzano would grow well in Vic, give them plenty space and sunshine. THere are two varieties - San Marzano which is a heritage tomato and San Marzano Redorta which grows huge fruits. As mistymorn says, they will need staking. They are Excellent for making Italian tomato sauce, or paste but also nice eaten fresh. They hail from Tuscany, are meaty, and productive. Technically Indeterminate ( vining types ) regular leaf, Red plum.
