Banana plantlets have arrived

| Have just received my Blue Java plantlets in agar in sealed tubes from the DPI. Keeping them warm over the cold winter nights is going to be a bit of a struggle as I don't have a heatpad or heated greenhouse, and the mini-greenhouse is simply too cold at night. Has anyone else successfully grown the plantlets and, if so, how did you keep them warm over winter? |

| Hope you have success keeping these warm over winter , not long to go . Keep them on top of your hot water service , if its indoors , or close to the back of a fridge . Look out for a yoghurt maker , or even an old crock pot .. these make handy temp. heat sources for tender plants . |

| I potted each one in a small pot and covered it with a plastic bag for humidity. They spend the sunny days in the sunroom, and the colder days in whatever room I'm using and therefore heating, and the nights in my bedroom. I did think of the hot-water heater, but it's too dark in the garage. The DPI cultivation notes say they need filtered sunshine, and that the light that comes thru windows isn't sufficient, but I just need to keep them alive until the nights are warm enough to place them outdoors in filtered light. So far, so good. |
