Lemon ID please

hello all

I've found a large old lemon tree growing on a new building estate and the lemons are absolutely delicious - almost sweet and nearly edible without too much puckered lips.

I've attached a picture - does anyone know what type it is?

I'm taking cuttings and seeds and fruit from the tree before it gets knocked down to build a huge house on another tiny block.

Interesting specimens. By your description I would have guessed Lemonades but the pic indicates other. Perhaps you should also post it on the Citrus Forum for the northerners to have a guess.

Here is a link that might be useful: Citrus Forum

If the fruit has quite thick skin and heaps of seeds, it could be a Citronelle (common name bush or rough lemon). The tree has small thorns.
The citronelle is used as a rootstock for grafted varieties.

Looks like the Rough Lemon to me that they use for rootstock
Have a look at the link below: Cheers...MM

Yes, it does appear to be a rough lemon. Any chance you could extract some seed from it before it gets the chop. They should be true to type as they are used as rootstock. If you have a few to spare I would really appreciate some. Contact me directly if you can get seed from it.

RE: Lemon ID please

thanks all for your help - I think the consensus is it is a rough lemon - tho a very tasty one.

I think I pinched my last lot of fruit tonight - the security guard sprung me and once I gave him a taste he said he's sure most of the workers will help themselves to the rest of the crop. I do intend to try some cuttings I took and the seeds to see what comes up.
