Hi everyone,

Please could someone tell me when to put tomato seeds in ready for the summer?

Thanks

Gill, don't do it now. When is your last frost in spring or when do you normally plant the seedlings? Calculate back 6-8 weeks.

I normally start in the middle of August. Or a bit earlier if I get cabin fever. But I only plant them in the middle of October, to make sure the last frost is over. The plants are then a good size and the soil is warm enough to plant out.

The plants don't appreciate being planted out when the soil is still cold. It'll set them back quite a few weeks and you don't gain anything. Good luck!

Hi gill

Anytime in spring, when there is no chance of frosts...that is if you get any...Most seeds need a minimum of 18 - 20 degrees soil temp to germinate.
