Importing Seeds

This question comes up periodically. Many seeds are allowed, many are not. The easiest way to find out is to use the AQIS Import Conditions database called ICON. Just type ICON AQIS into Google.
You need to know the botanical name, both genus and species, for the seeds you're interested in. It's best just to enter the genus in the "Commodity" field of the search page and select for species when the search is complete. Don't forget to select "Seeds for sowing" as your "End Use".
When you have the item, scroll down. If the list of conditions begins "An import permit is not required" then you're free to import up to 100g of seed at a time. That's a lot of seed! Make sure you get your supplier to add the botanical name to each packet and/or on the outside of the packaging on the customs sticker. AQIS will confiscate seeds they cannot identify.
Please note that Tasmania has extra restrictions. Tasmanians should check ICON as well as their state quarantine department.
PS If no one adds a post to this it will stay at the top. Just a suggestion. Feel free to bump it whenever you like. |

| I'll bump you Raymondo - yes, Tasmania is pretty strict and anyone here should double check. Just had 80ml rain over two days. Cosmic |
