3 bed crop rotation...

Given size restraints in our back yard of inner city Sydney, I've had to restrict our new vegie garden to 3 raised beds. (Ideally, I would have liked 4!) There seems to be lots of info on the web and in books on rotating crops through 4 beds, but little on 3 beds. What 3 groups should I split my vegies into?
Knowing that this is not an ideal situation, I plan to add lots of organic matter on an ongoing basis.

Hi chris

have you thought about the french way of intensive vegie gardening? There is some interesting stuff in the US garden web page in the kitchen garden page under vegetable gardening.

Helen

Here is a link that might be useful: french intensive vegetable gardening

Glad to hear my 'haphazard' and messy way of gardening has got a name now. I practice French intensive gardening. Yippeah!

Great link, Helen, thanks.

I might actually cram things closer together now. More food. Yes! :)

Leaf, root & legume? And when you grow legumes (peas, beans, etc), don't pull them up, but cut off at ground level. If there's some nitrogen still in the root nodules, it will improve the soil a bit.
