Can anyone suggest a decent sprayer for anti-bug recipe

Posted by bikingchris NSW Australia (My Page) on

I have been making some recipes to repel bugs eating broccili, basil, brussel sprouts etc. I have loads of Chillis, so blend these up with water and some liquid soap. I seive it through a fine seive, but there still are bits that get through.
Does anyone know of a good sprayer that doesn't get blocked easily, or any other suggestions?

Chris, I don't think you'll find a sprayer that will let bits of stuff through the nozzle. I'd suggest you strain the liquid through a piece of muslin or cheesecloth or even something like an old pair of pantyhose. They would remove the smallest bits of solid and leave you with a sprayable liquid.

My recipe for the chilli spray advises pureeing in a blender then putting through a fine sieve.
40-50 small hot chiliies to 2 litres of water and 50 grms pure soap flakes or few drops of liquid soap.
Do the blender thing with 1 litre of water and chillies then add the soap and remaining water. Spray on undiluted.
Reccom for all soft bodied insect like aphids.
Finbar's suggestion of using panty hose looks good but I hope he dosn't put them back in his wife's drawer afterwoods.

I did it once, Snoopy. Only once. My ears are still ringing.

Why not try chilli oil? just put the chilli's in olive oil and leave for a few months (the longer the better) You can add garlic too. I have never used this in the garden but I have had the same problem with blocked sprayers. The oil is also nice in the kitchen.

I had to laugh when I read ree ree's comment "I've never used this on the garden" I should hope not!!!!!!
Don't give the bugs the pleasure of all that beautiful chilli oil!!! Go out & buy some stockings, they're cheap enough
Sarah *who long ago gave up wearing stockings & suspenders*

Instead of stockings, you can also use paper coffee filters or bits of (old...) curtains or mosquito nets.
