Oh, nooo! - It's that time of the year again...

... where I can't have enough catalogues on my table to browse and plan and dream and ORDER lots of gorgeous things.

There are soooo many things I want. Yes, _want_.

I thought I had already ordered everything I needed for autumn and spring sowing, but.

Please tell me I am not the only one with this uh.. affliction.

And while we are at it - any suggestions for great catalogues? I have New Gippsland, Eden Seeds, Phoenix Seeds, Vogelvry (thanks, mudlark!), and Daleys.

I like Greenpatch Spatz. It's not a big catalogue but I like them because they source all their seeds here in Australia, growing most themselves on two properties in NSW. I also really like Kings Seeds catalogue to browse. They're in Richmond or Windsor on the outskirts of Sydney.
Look them up on the internet. You'll get the parent site in NZ but I'm sure they'll list the number for their Aussie outlet.
Other than that, I love browsing some of the overseas sites
Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds - incredible list of melons and pumpkins, all okay to import
Ferme de Ste Marthe - lots of old French varieties
The Organic Catalogue - the Henry Doubleday catalogue in the UK
The Victory Seed Company in the US
And so many more to drool over!!!

And it's not an affliction! It's, well, it's great, that's what it is!

BTW, I was very disappointed with the New Gippsland catalogue this year - much thinner than in the past! Perhaps it's just because of the new layout but I like big fat catalogues.

HeeHee Spatz, is it the crisp air in the hills that's bought on your affliction - bit brisk this morning?

I can't really add to your list of catalogues, but I do like to checkout Daley's website, they have an email list with links to their online newsletter, which is usually a good read (I'll post a link to the most recent one below which feature seed-saving, pecan trees, and the noni tree). Daley's do mail order fruit trees (specialising in sub-tropical but they do have others) and agroforestry, they also have quite a few bushfoods.

cheers, mudlark

Here is a link that might be useful: Daley's newsletter, June 2005

Ha! Mudlark! Brisk?! That's nothing, just you wait till it gets really, really cold. *grins* I hope you are enjoying your stay in the hills. :)

Yeah, Daley's newsletter is always interesting. Just received the email a day or two ago. The catalogue has interesting plants, too. However, I find the minimum order always a bit daunting. Plus postage. But might browse it again, just to make sure.

Might have to go to Perry's soon. Wanna come? :)

Well, that's a silly question! (I'll have to wait until next payday though!). I would like to plant a White Adriatic Fig this year, I've been waiting 'til the cool weather sets in properly.

Yeah, the housesitting is going ok, I prefer the hills in the cooler months anyway, I like the fog hanging 'round in the morning. I'm about to stoke up the fire, brew up a coffee and watch the pardalotes playing in the bird bath, then I'll go talk to the chooks for a bit, and marvel at the stupidity of the sheep and ponder the knowing looks of the cows, before I'm sure it will be time for another cup of coffee! There is no veggie patch here (!!!), seems I have yet to 'get' to my friends - who think that its too cold in the hills to get a decent tomato crop (??!!!).

I've never actually bought anything directly from Daley's - for the same reasons you state, but I've found them to be a good source of info none-the-less.

cheers, mudlark

ps: I am nursing those native capers that my friend grew, if they survive (looking a little shakey at the moment) you are welcome to have one.

Thank goodness there are people out there like me...I just love surfing the online catalogues. Bakers Creek is a firm favourite and so in Nichols in oregan USA because of the climate similarity. I try to collect any seed of eggplant, cantelope and watermelon that will possibly succeed here in Hobart.

We have tended to mostly use Diggers, but learned about Eden Seeds from here and another one I think called Green Harvest (? will check on that one). I want more!!!
