Here is a good moon planting calendar for dummies (like me):

You only have to consider the time difference between Australia and the US.

I never tried planting by the moon, but I want to try.

The book How to Grow More Vegetables by John Jeavons advocates planting and transplanting by the phases of the moon. There are charts that indicate whether particular seeds would be better sown at the new or full moon. I've experimented with the process and it has worked.

"Short and extra-long germinating seeds are planted two days before the New Moon, when the first significant magnetic forces occur, and up to seven days after the New Moon. Long germinating seeds are planted at the Full Moon and up to seven days afterward. Seedlings are transplanted at the same time. Both planting periods take advantage of the full sum of the forces of nature, including gravity, light, and magnetism"...

Planting by phases of the moon and / or by the astrological sign that the sun is in are two different concepts. Every day somewhere on the planet it is winter, spring, summer, or fall depending on latitude and elevation. Therefore, it makes no sense that seeds would be best germinated under the influence of a particular sign where in one location it would be appropriate and in another not.

Local lore that indicates a planting time linked to a particular astrological sign may be fitting, but to make generalizations and then apply them to the entire planet is not.

It looks like we may have an early fall here in San Diego, California USA; we're hopeful anyway. It would be a nice change from the wildfire seasons that we have had the past few years. Does it feel like spring yet in your part of the world?

Spring it is, 32 degs at present in the Sub-tropics being 12.36pm so the middle of the day.

I don't have any trouble growing veggies our beds are full though this summer we are going to remove all the soil from some and replace with a new lots of soil from the chook/hen yard rather than resting it as I want lots of salads for the warmer weather.. We have been growing no stop since July last year our Winter, marvelous what a bit of rain does as its been so dry in S.E.Qld the last 6 years..
