Fruiting Times

We are planning an orchard and hope to plan enough fruit species to give a fresh fruit supply for as many months as possible.

Would anyone know of a list or book that we might obtain to find out the times of year that each of the fruit trees may bear in our climate?

Thanks

There is a plethora of information on the web that can easily be accessed. You also have the rare fruits society in SA that can help. You should check out on-line nurseries in Aus as most have descriptions and ripening times and many fruits including apples can fruit from Dec to Apr depending on variety. Some berries also have summer and autumn varieties. The only fruit I know of for winter is the loquat which ripens in August.

Try woodbridge for varieties and their ripening times and techniques to help you to harvest fresh fruit for as long as possible.

You will also need to consider what your taste preferences are. It's no use growing a heap of fruit you don't like. Also how much space you have to devote, natural forces working against you such as birds, rabbits, diseases and whether you want to use chemicals or go organic or somewhere in between.

Here is a link that might be useful: Rare fruit society of SA
