Amanda, I'm not sure what the regulations are - for fresh food or otherwise. Might try and dig them out. There has to be one or moe government bodies responsible!
I thought the Federal government was still humming and haa-ing about the labelling. Under pressure, of course, from those marketing the GM products not to have to label.
I wrote to Coles and asked if they stock Red Back. They wrote back to say they don't, and their records indicate that they never have. I wrote as if I was interested in buying it, so their answer was full of apologies. I only told them it was GM after they'd written back. My next little foray is to get a list of countries that they import fruit/vegetables from. I'll then cross-check this against a list of countries that still use DDT. Of course, I'm hoping they don't buy any from such countries but my guess is they probably do. At the same time, I'm going to ask what their company policy is on GM food, both fresh and prepared. Keeps me off the streets!
Keep up the good work Ray! BTW I've met the seed saver for the Henry Doubleday Association, Sam has started a new school ('cos he's so clever, Mum smiling proudly)& she's his new best friends mum. If I can grow out the College tomatoes what do you think about me offering them to her to distribute? It's got to be better than Redbacks!
