Lovely tommy. My wife's favourite. Grow it every year. Pink, medium-sized heart-shape with a touch of sweetness. It's prolific, pretty early - I usually get them around 65 days - and enduring. It's also the wispiest tomato plant I've come across to the extent that it always looks like it's ailing. It's not. It's one of the most vigorous growers I've come across. Its branches spread like octopus tentacles all over the garden.

Grew it for the first time this year and it will be in my garden every year from now on. I only got smallish hearts from it, but prolific and meaty. Roooly noice.

Two years running I've grown but not tasted Anna Russian. First time round they suffered blight, nematodes and fruit fly. Second time round, actually two attempts, the plants were done in by a late freeze. Undaunted, a few were purchased at the local market where there is a guy selling heirloom tommies at $2 a pop. These turned out to be Cherokee Purple. He obviously doesn't know his heirlooms!
I will try again next season.

Thankx guys - sounds like a plan next season. Looks like I'll be growing quite a few ones that are new to me. The rest of this year is over with a big chill last night.

RE: Anna Russian

I only grew it once and it was a lovely heart, a real work of tomato art, symmetrical and lipstick coloured. Sweet and juicy, it was very nice indeed. Prolific and quite early for a heart.

It was milder than I hoped, but every tomato that year was milder than those I have this year. In comparing Anna Russian grown two-years ago with this year's Wes, the latter tastes better to me.

But then that's not a fair comparison as there have been plenty of tomatoes under the bridge since then to dull my senses. I have an 6in high Anna Russian to plant out as a winter experiment. In respect of hearts, Wes is coming back too.

I think you're gonna like it a lot :)Grub
