Ornamental Chillies

| Hi all,
We recently received an ornamental chilli plant as a gift, and I was wondering - are the chillies edible? This may seem like a silly question, but I know some ornamental varieties of vegetables aren't much chop in the kitchen. Also, if the chillies are edible, are they likely to be hot, medium, mild, or other?? The mature chillies are red in colour.
Thanks! |

I strongly suspect that they will be edible, in fact, I'm almost 100% certain; I don't know of any member of the several chilli species that isn't edible. As to palatability and heat, I couldn't say, sorry. Err on the cautious side and assume hot. You can always add more if they turn out to be mild. Hope this helps. |

| Agree with Ray...almost all chillies are edible, but would start easy and work my way up..... Regards, Shax |

| Yes, they are edible for sure Sally, not necessarily tasty, but definitely edible! They are likely to be very hot, especially if they're small. PP |

| A good rule of thumb is ...the smaller the hotter. good luck. |
