Sick Tomatoes

Hello Garden Web. My name is Jamie. I live in Bunbury WA. I have grown tomatoes for quite a few years. Please follow the link to my google picasaweb page.

Does any know what has struckdown my tomatoes. They started off very healthy and then began to die from the ground up. Is it wilt, blight, bottom rot, physarum....I am just throwing names about now! I purchased 3 cubic metres of soil from a local soil type guy and had it dumped at my yard for use in the vegie patch. Beans grew beautifully and herbs. I am sure there is a disease in the soil. Will my capsicums and eggplant succumb? Can I grow tomatoes in this soil again and space them out more? Resistant varieties? All advice will be appreciated. Varieties grown were all rom Diggers: Tommy Toe, Green Grape and Galapagos. Thanks.

Hi Jamie
If you grow tomatoes in the same patch for too many years they get blight. I think its either a type of leaf rust, or even called leaf rust. mine have it all the time because I cant be bothered rotating them from bed to bed. but if your plants are healthy they will grow faster than the rust and so its not really an issue. but you being in Bunbury its colder, so you might find things grow a bit slower. If you want to get rid of it, you can try chemical means, or else start each year in a new bed altogether and plant bean or something where the tomatoes were. you can rotate back after a year or two.
