A retired fruiterer gave me this tomato which was grown by a friend of his. Does anyone have any idea what variety it could be please? It weighs a massive 700g!! The flesh is very thick too.

Hi Totora,
It looks like some kind of large pink beefsteak and there are literally hundreds of them, with both regular leaf and potato leaf foliage. It reminds me of a lot of tomatoes I've grown and I think you will discover when fully ripe that it has a really nice fruity taste with a good balance of sweetness and acid. If you like it it's well worth saving seeds. Squeeze some into a container, let ferment, drain, strain and rinse, dry on a plate and you're all set for next season. :) grub

Grub's right. As always. Could be any of a number of pink beefsteaks. Presumably the retired fruiterer's friend doesn't know the variety? Knowing the plant's leaf shape - regular leaf or potato leaf - would narrow down the possibilities very very marginally.

Thanks for the comments Grub/Finbar,
I,m going past his country town at the end of the month and will take some photos of the plant and leaf for you to see.
