avocado leaf problem

I live south of Perth and I'm having troubles with my fuerte avocado. It seems to be growing quite well but just as new shoots and leaves start to form all the old leaves start to brown and fall off. After a few weeks it looks ok again as the new growth thickens up but is it normal for them to loose all thier leaves before a new growth flush? i've put some trace elements around it but it doesnt seem to be doing anything. Is this normal avocado behaviour?

RE: avocado leaf problem

Avocardo are sensitive to wind - if your tree is young you should protect it. the hot dry winds we get here are killers on tropicals. Or it could be you have too acidic soils adn the leaves are burning off. try some limestone or other alkali. But if is it growing well - that is, gaining in size and shape dont worry too much
