my roma tomatoes are getting a flat top and have gone brown like they are starting to rot. whats happening. Jan

Did you have a very hot and sunny day recently? Your tomatoes would then have gotten sunburnt. That's all I can think of.

When you say 'flat top' do you mean the around the stem end or around the blossom end? How ripe are they?

If it's around the blossom end then it sounds like Blossom End Rot (BER), very common in roma types. Not much you can do about it, apart from ensuring regular watering. BER is caused by the plant's inability to get calcium to the developing fruit. This is almost always due to some kind of stress and irregular watering is the main culprit. Adding calcium doesn't help because it's not the amount of available calcium that is the issue, but rather the plant's inability to correctly utilize it. It's usually worse at the beginning of the fruiting season, though not always.

If it's the stem end then I haven't got a clue, sorry.

Yes its the flower end. The fruit is ripe so I get thats what it is. Thanks for replies
