Where is the best place to buy various types of garlic for planting? I can't seem to find anywhere to get different varieties.

try the eumundi markets - they usually have ordinary and giant garlic and they're organically grown..

or some of the mail order companies - diggers, or

or

http://www.herbsalive.com.au/

or one of the seed saver clubs

Has Gympie got a local permaculture group? they usually have sales and swaps a couple of times a year

cheers and happy new year

Hi goldhills,
Try this web site http://www.greenharvest.com.au/index.htm
I recently purchased glenlarge variety from them and have them stored in the beer fridge awaiting their time to be planted it is my first attempt so it is all a bit of an experiment for me I think I may put them in the ground at the end of Feb they are supposed to be the variety that will tollerate our sub tropical climate heres hoping anyway good luck with your endeavours .
Cheers mee2u :-)

g'day goldhills,

way too early for you to be buying planting material yet i would suggest, planting time is end of march at the earliest. you can buy organic cloves in at the organic store in gympie last price they had on it was $35 a kilo', that's about the going rate for organic garlic on the east coast.

Thanks all. I'll have a look and see what they've got. I want to try different types of vegies this year instead of sticking to the same ones.

Len, I wasn't actually getting any yet but trying out my new years resolution of being more organised. Usually I leave it too late so I thought I'd get in early this year :)
