Tomato Dust

Just used almost a whole can of tom dust at $3.50 a shot and it says do it every 10 days.
Does anyone have a home recipe for Tomato Dust or prefereably a liquid spray that will do the same thing?
I try to be organic but if the pests persist in destroying my crops I resort to anything including nuclear.

I assume it's tomato worm that you're trying to control. Pyrethrum spray should achieve the same results and doesn't contain any carbamates like carbaryl. The same rate of application applies. It's best sprayed at sundown so as not to kill off bees and other garden friendlies.
Dipel should also work except that the grubs need to eat it (and hence the fruit) before it affects them.

I have found that a molasses spray is a good grub controller. Was trying to get rid of nematodes for the silverbeet and the next day the green grubs were dead. have used for tomato grub and white cabbage moth grub on brassicas with success. I use the rate recommended for nematodes 30 ml per litre. try to use more a foilage spray for grubs.

Dipel is the most ecologically friendly, but pyrethrum is good if you have to spray. Planting a couple of pyrethrum daisy close by will help. Also a good drenching with fish emulsion - 6 times the strength to what you'd normally use for foliar feed. Do it until the plant drips - late evening. Molasses sounds very interesting nick. I might try that if I get any pests! I have noticed fewer white cabbage moths this year - is it just in my garden or has anyone else noticed it? Obviously not snoopy ;-)

I use concentrated pyrethrum 20ml/ltr. Very expensive though. About $10 to cover my tomatoes with 10ltr of spray. It works well at keeping grubs, whitefly and other stuff at bay. Being non-organic I add 2.5-3ml of Daconil per litre to the pyrethrum to control or keep at bay the Early Blight. Fortnightly regime or earlier if there's heavy rain. Grubs love the rain.

I prefer DiPel to pyrethrum. Pyrethrum works on contact. If you miss the critters, you miss them. DiPel lies in wait for them.
