These popups are driving me crazy, i seem to spend more time closing than browsing. Looks like i am not the only one having trouble. Hope that they go away as they are spoiling a good forum. John

They won't go away - that's their profit source. I am sick of having to log in every time I want to post. I just spent a couple of hours researching forums but to avoid ads you have to pay - I have an ad free one on my site for private use, which is about the only free one I have found over the years, but I can't duplicate it otherwise I would host a forum myself.

g'day roughie,

get yourself a copy of mozilla firefox and use it for this forum you won't see all those pop ups then and things happen faster msie is too vulnerable to interference.

g'day linda,

yes they need to raise money but where does the need and greed line end and begin? anyhow thre are other forums around that could use some more patronage, garden express for one if you e/mail me i will give you some links, also learn to use the usenet and support the aus dot gardens news group as well.

i've got this problem of having to log on each time i use the forums i save the cookie so not sure what gives there?

RE: pop ups

It has been better since I changed to firefox (download it for free - just google firefox), still get the occasional one but better and faster than IE

I'm finding it a hassle to log on as well since they 'fixed' the formatting, etc

They seem to have fixed the login problem now. Next time you log in, remember to tick that "rememeber me" option and then the next time you come you'll be logged in. Looks like they got the cookie wrong somewhere along the line.

With the popups, where Firefox doesn't help because the Flash ads are not done as popups really, but a sneaky way that is not recognised by popup blockers. Get these two Firefox extension: "Adblock" and "Flashblock". Both very nice and seem to eliminate the annoying ones you have to close everytime to see messages.

If you're already a Firefox user, make sure you have/update to version 1.5 as I think Flashblock is for 1.5 only.

RE: pop ups

I've ticked the remember me box to no avail. So its not fixed at this point in time. I still have to log in every time. Len, I am on the Garden Express forum and enjoy reading that - don't post much though. I just got used to this one and forget to use it. I think the community here on the Aus Gardenweb has a personality of it own. It's just the forum platform itself! Seriously thinking of putting one up myself on my own site......hope things improve.

Patrina - did you have to use a different email address because if I try to change my user name, it won't let me because the email is alreay in use!

RE: pop ups

Firefox, since I added Adblock, works well - no popups. Login still not fixed! I asked them about html tags in posts and they said they're working on it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Just to test, the above should be bold.
