RE: Tomato Varieties

I've only just been able to log in. I was locked out for a few days!
Anyway, tomatoes.
I haven't grown any of the ones you mentioned but do know a little about them.
Caspian Pink - Largish pink fruit, mid to late season. Sweet mild taste. Needs staking.
Southern Night - Reasonably large black fruit. Quite meaty. Supposedly good for preserving. Potato leafed plant. Mid to late season. Needs staking.
Costuluto Genovese - Italian red. Highly ribbed (costoluto means just that). Good cooking tomato. Mid to late season. Needs staking.
Potentate - Crimson red fruit. On the small side of medium.
Tartar from Mongolstan - Medium, reddish orange fruit. Early mid season.
Hope this helps a little.

Linda, I've grown Costoluto Genovese and Costoluto Fiorentino. Probably two of the better known "Italian" varieties widely available. The Genovese is more heavily ribbed than the Fiorentino. There are many many better toms around.

Thankee kindly Ray and Finbar - I saw seeds advertised on EBay and was vurious about them. Not sure I'll pursue ant of them as only Potentate seems good for Tassie conditions.

Ray - the forum is causing a lot of problems. Not sure what they are doing but I couldn't get on for a while, then it finally recognised my password but now I have to log on every time I want to post a reply or new post.
