| Can anyone tell me if it is normal for a potted pincushion cacti( sorry I don't work well with botanical names) to get something like a yellow scar tissue forming that looks something like sunburn in a patch on top, or if it is perhaps something more serious. It doesn't appear to be spreading. It would be terrible if I had to lose the old thing.

| It is hard to tell what it is without a picture. Keep it out of direct sunlight and watch it closely over the next couple of weeks. If it starts to spread or turn black, then you should probably cut it out (disaster for the plants appearance). This recently happened to me and I discovered after cutting the top off that the rot had progressed down the centre of the cactus. If the skin only is sunburnt, then it may eventually outgrow the scarring. Jon |
