Striking new plants - hen and chicken common variety

Posted by daisy81 QLD AUST (My Page) on

Hi, This is a silly question I was given 2 hen and chicken succulents. They are about 30cm in diameter blue grey leaves with coloured ends and currently have redish flowers. How do I strike new plants from these? I read that you cut the top off the plant and a new one should grow? Tried it and the stump died :-(
It looks like on the top of the flower spikes are new plants?

Please help me I am really frustrated with this as I have been able to grow so many other succulents with no problems! - silly isn't lol
Thanks for your time -Emily

Lay the leaves on top of damp soil in a pot and place it in the shade after a week or so you'll notice new growth
