Growth rate of Trichocerus Pachanoi

Hi, I recently bought some cuttings of TP. The lengths are about 6 to 8 inches and are quite fat (about 3 inch dia). I was wanting to know the growth rate of Trichocerus Pachanoi.

I bought one less than 2 years ago, it was about 6-8 inches like yours. Since then, it grew to almost half a metre! AND it grew a pup from the base. I cut off the pup to root it, and have now also cut the main cactus to make cuttings. I left a couple of inches on the base, so it will regenerate itself. Another pup is also emerging. I have always used fertiliser, so you could expect a growth rate of 1 foot/year in the right conditions (once they are well established). Once you root some cuttings, your collection will grow exponentially if you want it too. I hope one day i get to see mine flower. Pachanoi also make excellent grafting stock.
One question for you, can you tell me where you got the cuttings from? How much? You can email me if you like. Hope this has helped!

Jon

You searched everywhere for a reasonably large quantity of T. pachanoi cuttings and when you finally got them you are in a hurry to grow them. Now are you going to tell me that your San Pedro's are NOT going to end up on the dinner plate?
Dave. :)

This message is specifically to "Davez104". Could you please enlighten me as to what on earth you are talking about ??. And if for some reason you cannot, stay out !!

Sorry ajaykamath, maybe I'm picking on the innocent. San Pedro's or Trichocereus pachanoi, is widely used as a recreational drug similar, I believe, to LSD, and is well known for this use. I find it hard to believe that someone with a moderate knowledge of cacti would not know this or that someone with no knowledge of cacti would actively seek this species for any other reason. But like I said, I may be picking on the innocent, in which case, I apologise.
Dave.

The only cacti I am aware of that has alkaloid content is, the Lophophora genus, with special reference to the Williamsii species. I love T'Pachanoi for its form and color, and nothing more. Apology accepted. :)

If you love your trichocereus then youll certainly be fascinated at the important healing role they play in Andean cultures.
They have been used continually in this way for over 4000 years
The collecting of psychoactive cacti is not a black and white issue, it IS possible to have a cactus collection whose theme is specifically psychoactive cacti without actually EATING it - i wonder if the brugmansia colectors get as much flack
my cacti are far too precious to eat and neither of us pay attention to politics
