Hi Tammy, I just sowed them in some fine river sand and now have about 10 small plants growing just fine. I must admit that i should have got better results but i planted them just before winter and have neglected them a lot since :( Just goes to show how tough they are i suppose. I did use a fungicide in the first watering which may have helped, I used 'Benlate'. Hope this is of some help. Dave. |

Thankyou Dave for the information ,i had not sowed them as i wanted to be sure of doing it properly.I am surprised at your success seeing you sowed them before winter. As For fungicide ,on everything i sow or rots i use hortico rose dust it must be the sulfur in the powder , what ever it is it is cheap and works for me. Kind regards Tammy |

| Amazingly I too sowed Lithops Rubra Optica seeds (about 15 of them), before winter , maybe mid autumn. I now have only 1 seedling remining that seems to have stabilised and is actually growing !!. I must try and grow some seed during spring and see the difference. My Lithop schwantesii has just produced some seed - best of luck I suppose ! |

Remember there are to sowing seasons for Lithop seed, Autumn & Spring. You will have to ask some one who is really into Lithops about which ones are which season. I germinate all my seeds in take away food containers. I use Debco seed raising mix which i just damp down, put the seeds on top, close the lids down on them and throw them on the shelf, i might give a spray with a Fungicide like Fongorid if they need it but other than that i leave them for up to six to 12 mnths until they are ready to pot out & i lose very few. |
