Hey,
just planning what to do with my Pigface (mesem something) over winter. Its in a pot so i can move it easily enough. Is it frost tolerant ? Prefers a dry winter ? Or can i leave it outside unprotected (easiest option as im running outta space)
thanks |

| Pigface, Carpobrotus rossii, grows like a weed on some VERY exposed sand dunes along the south coast of VIC, so I'd imagine just leave it in the ground somewhere and it'll do just fine. Not a good idea to leave it in the pot, cos it likes to creep. Jon |

dude, because i am renting i have no choice but to grow it in a pot. Ive actually got some that i collected from a sand dune in southern Vic. the problem is where it is growing wild it is not exposed to frost. also in the wild it is basically just growing in sand ... im not growing it in sand and therefore the water holding capacity of the mix i am using being greater than sand means that it may rot if it doesnt like winter rain. |

| Hmmmm, well I can't really answer your questions, because I have only recently collected some from the sand dunes. I did place them in fairly loose woodchips/soil, I think this will be fine for them, but I can't be sure. No great loss if they die. You could try getting a longitudinal pot, and use sand/soil as the mix... Jon |
