Seeking information on alternative uses of Cacti

Posted by surfedonin Broken Hill (My Page) on

I’m seeking information on cacti and succulents that are edible and that are available in Australia?

My preference is, Prickly Pear as it is common where I live. Although I’m not sure if the ones growing near me are edible?

Does anyone know which species are edible and how I can identify the edible ones? Or is there a detailed book available?

I’m also looking for information on cacti cooking/jams/medicinal purposes or alternative uses. Names of books will be helpful.

Thanking you in advance.
