Cacti Seedlings

I have a number of varoius cacti seedlings the size of a dried pea (2 weeks since germination)which are very crowded. One book tells me to plant them on when they are able to be picked out with pincers and the other when the spines appear. Help! which is correct?

RE: Cacti Seedlings

Hi Milly,
From experience moving tiny seedlings, I'd def wait till they're bigger.. there's nothing more frustrating than trying to move tiny things only 2 weeks old and planting them upright into new soil. A lot of growers leave their cacti until they're VERY crowded, so I wouldn't worry about it for now.

RE: Cacti Seedlings

Lis, Thanks for the advice. I had already potted them on as they were quite big (ie large pea). I am glad I did as they would have prevented the othe seeds from having any room at all. I now have 117 seedlings, with only three loses. I put that down to the humidity as we have just had two weeks of monsoonal weather.
